College Football Report - Bowl Picks - St. Petersburg Bowl:

Beef ‘O’ Brady’s St. Petersburg Bowl

Louisville (6-6) vs. Southern Miss (8-4)

V S.

8 PM, ESPN. Tue. Dec. 21, St. Petersburg, FL

Why Watch: It’s actually a nice matchup. Louisville was more inconsistent this season than Southern Miss, but the Cardinals are actually a decent team. Five of the six Louisville losses came by a touchdown or less. Southern Miss, who went 5-3 in the CUSA this season, isn’t all that bad of a football team either, having lost their three conference games by a combined eight points.

Who to Watch: It’s Louisville running back Bilal Powell. The senior, who wasn’t even a starter before the season, ran for 1,330 yards and 10 scores on a 6.3 average. Southern Miss defensive end Cordarro Law is one to watch, as well. Law brought in four sacks in the final four games of the year, leading the Golden Eagles with six on the year.

How it’s Going Down: The St. Petersburg Bowl almost turned into the St. Petersburg Brawl, before the game could even start. The two got into a pushing and verbal confrontation following a pool dance contest during hotel activates in St. Petersburg. The advantage in the fight on the field has to go to Louisville. Southern Miss is a good team, they proved it against Central Florida and Houston this season. But if Powell can get going, it should be enough for the Cardinals. Expect a close one, though. Pick: Louisville 31- Southern Miss 27
