Outback Bowl
Florida (7-5) vs. Penn State (7-5)
1 PM, ABC, Sat. Jan. 1, Tampa, FL
Why Watch: It’s Urban Meyers departure and what looks to be just the middle of 84 year old Joe Paterno’s career. The seasons on both parts can be looked at as disappointments, after both brought in 11 win seasons in 2009. An Outback Bowl win can save either’s year's, however.
Who to Watch: The Gators are without three starters on the defensive side of the ball, but are left with a few others who are capable of making big plays. One of them is safety Ahmad Black. Black led the team in tackles with 102, with 10 tackles for a loss. He also brought in three interceptions on the year. For Penn State, keep an eye on Lions wideout Derek Moye. The junior has become a favorite target of quarterback Matt McGloin, catching a touchdown in four straight games. He’s also over 800 yards on the season.
How it’s Going Down: Neither team really ended the season on a good note. The Gators more so need a win following a 31-7 pounding to Florida State in the last game of the year. The Nittany Lions have always been a good bowl team under Paterno, but I have to believe the Gators will come out playing inspired football in a likable coaches’ last game in Urban Meyer. The playmaking ability of Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps should be able to makes some plays in space for the Gators. Pick: Florida 27 – Penn State 20
