College Football Report - Pac-12 Offbeat With New Logo Video:

When the new Big Ten Conference revealed its plans to use division names Leaders and Legends this coming fall, I really didn’t think creativity could get much worse.

Then I saw the new Pac-12 logo release video, and needless to say, it got worse.

The video (below) unveils the new Pac-12 logo, which is barely changed from the last, but not before it subjects viewers to techno and a minute of dancing by what looks to be a few Pac-10 athletes and nerdy fans.

I’m not one against smiling, it’s my favorite and all, but the endless smiles in the video begin to make me a little nauseous by the end. There’s also a Stanford swimmer and Oregon track athlete who do nothing to prove white people are becoming better dancers, and one UCLA fan that makes things about as awkward as a serious mascot.

The Pac-12’s new members, Utah and Colorado, are revealed at the end when a girl in a Colorado volleyball jersey and a dork in a Utah t-shirt and red furry hat are thrown on screen.

Then comes the revealing of the logo, which you soon find out is exactly the same as the last, with just the number 12 instead of 10. It makes sense, though, the logo was already stylish and the best looking conference logo, all they needed to do was change the number. At least they acknowledge all of their teams in the conference…I’m looking at you Big Ten.

The conference kept the division names modest with North and South, as well. California, Stanford, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington and Washington State will make up the North. The South Division will be made up of UCLA, USC, Arizona State, Arizona, Utah and Colorado. The Pac-10 officially becomes the Pac-12 beginning on July 1.

Perhaps the biggest question one has to ask is how the Pac-10 goes from hitting the nail dead on in their 2010 Pac-10 football preview and new logo video…

…to destroying half of the drywall in their latest video? I almost feel bad subjecting you to watch this, but here is the new Pac-12 promotional video:

No word yet on the Pac-12’s case against Austin Linford, owner of pac12.com. The conference filed a lawsuit against Linford for sitting on a web domain without intent to use. Linford then responded by adding an Amazon widget featuring songs from late rapper Tupac Shakur.

Linford also claims to own pacific12.com and pactwelve.com and is currently taking the case to the U.S. District Court in Utah.

Well, nobody ever said change was easy.
