College Football Report: Saturday Picks - Week 12

#7 Wisconsin (9-1) vs. Michigan (7-3)

Vs.

12:00 ET ESPN, Sat. Nov. 20, Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, MI

The Michigan defense has been one of the sport’s most suspect units this season. Last week at Purdue, however, the defense stepped up when the offense sank. In comes a team in Wisconsin fresh off a week of 83 points, though. The Big Blue defense may need to step up to a level they may not be capable of today. Pick: Wisconsin 37 – Michigan 27

#6 Stanford (9-1) vs. California (5-5)

Vs.

3:30 ET, Sat. Nov. 20, Memorial Stadium, Berkeley, CA

In back-to-back weeks the Cal Bears welcome the PAC-10’s best two teams. We saw the problems the Bears are capable of inflicting at home this season last week against Oregon. The Cardinal matches up with the Bears far better than the Ducks, however, and will pound the football in a hostile environment. The results may be the same for the Bears in a hard fought game. Pick: Stanford 24 – California 14

(Upset Pick…)

#9 Ohio State (9-1) vs. #20 Iowa (7-3)

Vs.

3:30 ET, ABC, Sat. Nov. 20, Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City, IA

Just when it looked like the Buckeyes were down and out of last week’s Penn State matchup, they stormed back, rolling over the Nittany Lions with ease. Kinnick Stadium won’t be a welcoming place, especially with the Hawkeyes fresh off of an upset loss. We saw the same results when the Spartans came to Iowa City following the Wisconsin loss. It's also senior day in Iowa City. Pick: Iowa 27 – Ohio State 23

(Game of the week…)

#16 Virginia Tech (8-2) vs. #24 Miami (FL) (7-3)

Vs.

3:30 ET ESPN, Sat. Nov. 20, Sun Life Stadium, Miami, FL

The Hokies can clinch a trip to the ACC title game with a win today. Miami is still alive and needs this game and a Virginia upset over the Hokies next week to make the trip. Tech hasn’t been the same football team in the last two weeks, struggling to keep teams out of the game late. The Canes have found new hope on the year, thanks much in part to a dominating running game over the last two weeks, though. Freshman quarterback Stephen Morris will start for Miami, but that’s not such a bad thing. Pick: Miami (FL) 29 – Virginia Tech 23

Purdue (4-6) vs. #12 Michigan State (9-1)

Vs.

12:00 ET, Big Ten, Sat. Nov. 20, Spartan Stadium, East Lansing, MI

The Purdue offense struggled mightily last week against a porous Michigan defense. The Boilermakers have used an assembly line of quarterbacks over the last few weeks and the results have been quite in favor of their opponents. Michigan State finally got to rest a beaten up team last week and should get back to their roots of running the ball today. Pick: Michigan State 41 – Purdue 13

#13 Arkansas (8-2) vs. #21 Mississippi State (7-3)

Vs.

7:00 ET, ESPN, Sat. Nov. 20, Davis Wade Stadium, Starkville, MS

This is one of the more intriguing games of the week. The Arkansas offense has been one of the most dominating units in the SEC and the country this year. The Mississippi State defense has carried the team to a 7-3 record, one of the best starts in Starkville in years. A night game in Starkville is no easy place to find a win, evident of the close matchup the Bulldogs gave Auburn earlier this season. Ryan Mallett and the Razorbacks have been rolling as of late, however. Pick: Arkansas 30 – Mississippi State 21

#8 Nebraska (9-1) vs. #19 Texas A&M (7-3)

Vs.

8:00 ET, ABC, Sat. Nov. 20, Kyle Field, College Station, TX

The Nebraska offense has been a week-to-week unit this year. One week it’s dominating, scoring over 45 points. The next, it’s struggling to move the ball, shuffling quarterbacks in and out. Taylor Martinez has shown his youth at times this year, but the A&M defense has been anything but spectacular this season. Kyle Field will be rocking without a doubt, but the Blackshirt defense of the Cornhuskers should be able to cool a hot A&M team. Pick: Nebraska 38 – Texas A&M 24

#14 Oklahoma (8-2) vs. Baylor (7-4)

Vs.

8:00 ET, ESPN 2, Sat. Nov. 20, Floyd Casey Stadium, Waco, TX

With a loss today, the Sooners find their Big 12 title hopes slip from their grasp. The Bears have succumbed to two straight losses to Oklahoma State and Texas A&M, two powerful offenses. Baylor has a powerful offense of their own, led by quarterback Robert Griffin III and running back Jay Finley. There may be only one or two trios in the country better than Oklahoma’s Landry Jones, Demarco Murray and Ryan Broyles, though. Pick: Oklahoma 42 – Baylor 31

(Give me a ticket to see…)

Army (6-4) vs. Notre Dame (5-5)

Vs.

7:00 ET, NBC, Sat. Nov. 20, Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY

These two teams used to meet regularly at the old Yankee Stadium. It’s been nearly 90 years since the two have met on a baseball diamond, however. It’s nearly a home game for Army. The Knights have been one of the nation’s best defenses this season and with Jared Hassin racking up yards on the ground, and they’ve been a stout offensive unit as well. The Irish are fresh off of a big home win over Utah, but have fallen in un-expecting times this year. Pick: Army 28 Notre Dame 20

Illinois (5-5) vs. Northwestern (7-3)

Vs.

8:00 ET, ESPN U, Sat. Nov. 20, Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL

For the first time since 1938, Wrigley Field will host a college football game. It’s a home game for the Northwestern Wildcats and the Stadium has been painted purple for them. Illinois is fresh off of a very disappointing loss to Minnesota last week and will need to find their offensive identify again this week to hang with a well coached Wildcats team. The one problem the Wildcats face today is breaking in a new quarterback. Dan Persa was lost last week in the upset against Iowa and in steps freshman Evan Watkins, who’s attempted just seven passes on the year. Pick: Illinois 23 – Northwestern 21

Last Week: 7-4 – Overall: 93-41 – Upset Pick: 6-4
