College Football Report - Thursday & Friday Picks - Week 11

(Thursday)

Pittsburgh (5-3) vs. Connecticut (4-4)

Vs.

7:30 ET ESPN, Thur. Nov. 11, Rentschler Field, East Hartford, CT

Pittsburgh: The Panthers are peaking at just the right time in the season. Winners of three straight in Big East play, the Panthers offense, the ground game in particular, is starting to pick up. The running back rotation of Dion Lewis and Ray Graham, have homerun ability on every carry. Better news for the Panthers, they may have defensive end Greg Romeus back tonight. PLAYER TO WATCH: Jabaal Sheard, Sr. DE

Connecticut: The Huskies have struggled mightily all season long on offense, which is surprising with a play like Jordan Todman in the backfield. Todman is one of the nation’s best rushers with over 950 yards on the year. The problem has been at quarterback where starter Zach Frazer has tossed just two touchdowns in six games. PLAYER TO WATCH: Lawrence Wilson, Sr. OLB

The Pick: Pitt is a hot team right now. The offense is clicking and the defense is coming off of a game in which they allowed just three points to Louisville. As we saw earlier this season, though, Rentschler Field on a weeknight is no easy place to play. The Mountaineers found that out. Both teams have had week off to prepare, which I think works out better for Pitt right now. Pittsburgh 28 – Uconn 17

(Friday)

#4 Boise State (8-0) vs. Idaho (4-5)

Vs.

9:00 PM ET, ESPN 2, Fri. Nov. 11, Kibbie Dome, Moscow, ID

Boise State: The Broncos continue to be one of the nation’s most dominating teams. The offense is averaging 543 yards a game and put up a staggering 732 against a good Hawaii team last week. Quarterback Kellen Moore isn’t messing around on the year and neither is their defense, giving up just 12 points a game. PLAYER TO WATCH: Billy Winn, Jr. DT

Idaho: Quarterback Nathan Enderle is one of the best kept secrets in college football. The senior passer has thrown for over 2,500 yards on the year, with four 330 plus yard games this season. The Vandals, though, continue to be a weak team. They may bring along the nation’s No. 4 ranked passing offense, but they also have the nation’s No. 116 rush offense. PLAYER TO WATCH: Maurice Shaw, Sr. WR

The Pick: I get away with an easy pick and win this week. I don’t see any way that the Vandals could possibly even scare the Broncos in this one. The lone motivation Idaho has stems from after Boise A.D. Gene Bleymaier ripped the Vandals earlier this year. Bleymaier claimed the game wasn’t a heated rivalry and the two wouldn’t continue to play when Boise leaves the WAC because the Vandals can’t compete with the Broncos. Well, he’s kind of right. Boise State 47 – Idaho 14
