College Football Report - Mid-season All-American Team

We’re halfway through the 2010 college football season. It’s sad to think about, but it’s time to unveil the All-American players of the halfway point. These are the players who have been the stars of the halfway point of the college football season. It doesn’t mean they’ll end up with the recognition and the hardware at the end of the season, but if I was a betting man I wouldn’t bet against them. The most stacked positions of 2010: Quarterback and linebacker. The Least: Running back and Safety. But without further a due, your 2010 Insdie the Locker Room mid-season All-American team:

QB: Cameron Newton – Jr. – Auburn A complete dual-threat quarterback. Newton has 12 passing touchdowns and nine rushing scores on the season. Second in the country with a 180.7 QB rating.

RB: LaMichael James – So. – Oregon – Second in the nation in rushing with 848 yards despite missing week one. The most explosive offensive back in the country.

RB: Via Taua – Sr. – NevadaKaepernick isn’t the only star in Nevada. Has at least one rushing touchdown in each game this season. Is averaging 7.2 yards a carry and is second in the nation in rushing amoung running backs.

WR: Justin Blackmon – So. – Oklahoma State – Leads nation with 11 touchdown catches. Has at least 125 yards in every game this year. Two games of 180 yards or more.

WR: Alshon Jeffery – So. – South Carolina – Has been a big play threat for the Gamecocks. Had a combined 319 yards and four scores against Auburn and Alabama.

TE: Lance Kendricks – Sr. – WisconsinA mismatch for linebackers and safeties, Kendricks has been the focal point of the Badger passing game, leading the team in recieving yards thus far.

OL: Rodney Hudson – Sr. – Florida State – The leader of the FSU line, has already been the ACC Offensive Linemen of the Week twice this season.

OL: Gabe Carimi – Sr. – WisconsinPaves the way for John Clay and a Wisconsin rush game that has brought in 21 rushing scores.

OL: Bo Thran – Sr. – OregonThe leader of a line that has given up just two sacks this season and averaged better than 300 rush yards a game. Played hurt through the Stanford game.

OL: Marcus Cannon – Sr. – TCU A hardnosed road graver and one of the top draft offensive line prospects. Has led an offense to another undefeated start.

OL: Steve Schilling – Sr. – MichiganHas contributed crushing trap blocks springing way for Denard Robinson and the nation’s No. 6 rush offense.

K: Dan Bailey – Sr. – Oklahoma StateHas connected on two 52 yarders. Is a perfect 11-for -11 on the season and 32-for-32 on extra points.

KR: Trent Richardson – So. – AlabamaA wrecking ball with a full head of steam. Is averaging 26.8 a return with one score.

DE: Da’Quan Bowers – Jr. – ClemsonHas been a terror off the edge for the Tigers. Six sacks in five games. Has 11 tackles for loss on the year.

DE: Vinny Curry – Jr. – MarshallLeads the nation with eight sacks. Had two sacks against both Ohio State and West Virginia. Four multi-sack games.

DT: Drake Nevis – Sr. – LSUHas been impossible to block inside this season. Had seven tackles and 1.5 sacks against Florida, the defensive MVP of a team loaded with talent.

DT: Nick Fairley – Jr. – AuburnAthletic tackle who can split double-teams or pave through blockers. Five sacks on the year and 12 quarterback hurries. A junior college transfer who stepped in right away.

LB: Nate Irving – Sr. – North Carolina StateHas returned from a horrific car accident to lead NC State in tackles with 45. Had 16 stops and two sacks against Georgia Tech.

LB: Greg Jones – Sr. – Michigan StateThe 2009 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. An aggressive linebacker with a nose for the ball, leads MSU in five defensive stat categories.

LB: Kelvin Sheppard – Sr. – LSU - Averaging nearly 10 tackles a game. Has brought in 56 tackles and 6.5 tackles for loss. Had sacks against Tennessee and Florida.

CB: Cliff Harris – So. – Oregon – Tied for the nations lead with four interceptions. Has four total touchdowns, three on punt returns.

CB: Patrick Peterson – Jr. – LSU – A true shutdown corner and the leader of one of the nation’s best defenses. Is on a short list of many Heisman ballots.

S: Ahmad Black – Sr. – FloridaLeads the Gators in tackles with 50 and is tied for the team lead with three interceptions. Had two picks against South Florida.

S: Mark Barron – Jr. – AlabamaBuilding on an All American sophomore season, Barron leads the Crimson Tide in tackles with 40 and sacks with two.

P: Kyle Martens – Jr. – RiceA net average of 47.7 a kick, booted a 71 yarder against Texas. Averaged 50 yards a kick against Northwestern.

PR: Shaky Smithson – Sr. – UtahSecond in the nation with a 23.4 average. Has returned two for scores with over 400 yards in returns.
